As someone who has spent almost every summer at Lido Delle Nazioni, one of the 7 beach towns of Comacchio, I know every hidden corner, every dirty secret, every tiny detail about what happens there and of course: I am the best person to ask for recommendations when it comes to areas like best places to eat, best bars for tasty cocktails, best beach bars, things to do, nightlife… anything you might want to know about this coastal town on the Northern-Eastern part of Italy. It’s possible you’ve never heard about Lido Delle Nazioni, and that wouldn’t be so strange: it’s actually a very small beach town that is only brought to life in the summer. What makes it a great destination? It being an oasis of peace and tranquillity, a place where you can unwind, party, drink your cocktails on a water boat in the middle of the sea; but it’s also a great base for day trips to to Comacchio (the small Venice of the region), Ferrara, or the amusement park called Mirabilandia. Now that you know a little about the town, let’s dive straight into this Lido Delle Nazioni Insider’s Guide!

Best places to eat:
This family owned restaurant located in the strict centre, on the main (pedestrian) road, in front of the sea – you’ll find exquisite dishes that will satisfy your palate and at the same time – not break a bank.
Pro tip: make sure to make a reservation, being the best restaurant, it’s always full of guests and if you don’t come with a reservation, you risk not finding a table.
Food recommendation: if you are into seafood, I definitely recommend you try Gnocchi alla polpa di granchio.
A bar and a pool at day, a wonderful restaurant at night. Here you’ll find a very chill atmosphere, family-like, in a more secluded spot right around the corner. Even though the place might look more casual, I can assure you that the food is extremely tasty and well-presented.
Pro tip: aside from the menu a la carte, they offer 2 complete menus of a starter, pasta, meat/fish and a dessert; one for those who like fish, and for those who like meat. If you choose any of the 2, you’ll be able to get a very good deal price-wise.
Food recommendation: Escobar makes the best Shrimp Cocktail I’ve ever eaten in Italy. It’s one of the starters called Cocktail di Gamberi.
La Bussola has always been, and still is, seen as the most luxurious restaurant in town. There’s no doubt that it’s due to the vast choice of dishes that will satisfy every guest, haute cuisine, as well as the interior design of the location. If you’re looking for a fine dining experience, La Bussola should be your choice.
Pro tip: make sure to bring something to put on – they don’t have tables outside, and the inside is often accompanied by air conditioning.
Food recommendation: grilled scampi (seafood).
Another fine dining experience choice would be the Maxim restaurant. Located beside Ristorante Barbablù, here you’ll find an elegant interior and exterior decorated with picturesque fountains and statues, and the food itself might surprise you positively. Don’t get discouraged if there’s not many people: there’s an old circulating myth that their prices are high, which has not been true for at least a decade now.
Pro tip: if you decide to come in for a Sunday lunch, you’ll see that most of the pizzas and pastas are only half-price.
Food recommendation: spaghetti alla carbonara or pizza Pantera Rosa.
Surprisingly, this beach bar transforms itself into a very popular and well known restaurant at night. The possibility of taking an evening stroll at the beach immediately after your dinner or even pre-dinner, makes it even a more romantic experience. Sometimes they even have live music on the bar side.
Pro tip (for the ladies): it’s not recommended to come in high heels to fully enjoy the experience of the beach in the evening.
Food recommendation: here you’ll eat the best spaghetti allo scoglio of the whole town.
I’m recommending places with exquisite pastas, pizzas… but there’s also a great place for burgers, finger food and steaks! Charly Pub is focused on american food and you won’t be disappointed by their burgers – when it comes to pizza, it will also be served in the american way – thick and crunchy.
Pro tip: it’s a great place for a bigger group of people, so that you can order more types of finger food to share in between each other.
Food recommendation: if you’re courageous enough, make an attempt at their biggest burger called L’Impossibile. It’s very tasty, but also very big; so if you manage to finish it, you’ll gain my respect.
Piadineria Da Franco
This is not a restaurant, but a kiosk with the traditional food from the Emilia-Romagna region. You need to try it at least once when you’re there to see how amazingly it tastes, even though it’s so simple! Piadina can be eaten with almost all of the ingredients you can imagine, and they even have a lot more specialties to choose from.
Pro tip: a rotolo is a rolled version of a piadina, similar to a wrap. When you order a rotolo, you get 2 pieces, which you can share if you’re not extremely hungry.
Food recommendation: any piadina or rotolo, tweak the ingredients to your preferences.
Best bars for evening cocktails:
This beach bar transforms itself into a true gem of bartending at night. Their highly qualified barmans will surprise you with their cocktails, shot compositions and even own creations.
Pro tip: ask the bartender for recommendations instead of looking at the menu. There are a lot of hidden options not listed on the menu.
Drink recommendation: Try the secret shots by telling the bartender these words “che Buono che Buono che Buono”. You’ll be pleasantly surprised!
Chalet Del Mare
The luxury destination of Lido Nazioni is the everlasting Chalet Del Mare. I’ve had the pleasure to work there for over 5 years as a dancer and I remember these years very warmly. Their cocktails are always pleasant and well-made.
Pro tip: whenever possible, try to order at the inside bar, as opposite to the outside bar.
Drink recommendation: Peschito, if you like peach (that’s my all-time favorite drink).
On the opposite side from Chalet Del mare, you’ll find Bagno Cristallo, another great destination for an evening drink or shots. Their shots are really great for the price and the great location makes it a good place to chill.
Pro tip: the sunset drinks there are really picturesque, you might want to start your evening early.
Drink recommendation: shot B-52.
Beach bars with pools:
For those who like a little bit of both: the calm sea and luxury swimming pools, Lido’ will be the best beach bar to choose. I personally choose it whenever I’m at Lido Nazioni, since its very opening. The place itself is very aesthetically pleasing, completely white and kept in an elegant style.
Pro tip: you can try the whirlpools as well as book a bed-like sunbed on the beach for the ultimate luxury experience.
Another luxury beach bar just beside the previous one is Prestige. The perfect interiors, as well as the calmness of their secluded, huge pool, will create the best atmosphere you might be looking for if you’re a luxurious traveller.
Pro tip: regardless of whether you get your sunbed in the beach area or the pool area, you can still take advantage of both (even though pool sunbeds are a little wider).
A less famous beach bar with a pool is also the Albatros. With a very spacious beach area, you’ll always find a lot of people enjoying their mornings and afternoon there.
Last but not least beach bar with a swimming pool is also La Rotonda. Its history dates back to the previous century, however its shine doesn’t cease to sparkle. It’s a great choice for families – since the atmosphere there is really casual and serene.
Pro tip: on Thursday’s there are usually family friendly evening parties.
Beach bars to choose with kids:
A small and intimate like Bagno Giada is the ultimate choice if you’re staying with kids, since you can see them with the corner of your eye even if they want to play around the beach.
Pro tip: both adults and kids can play the volleyball at the beach court. Ask the employees for a ball.
Another great place to choose when spending your holiday with kids is the Bagno Aloha. They have a vast playground at the beach and are very children-oriented.
Last but not least, the beach bar I used to spend the most time in as a kid. It’s also very intimate and well-designed.
Pro tip: if you’re having an incredibly hot day, try their granitas for the ultimate refreshment. Theirs is the best in town!
Beach bars to choose with dogs:
There’s a special beach area where you can hang around with your dog – even without a leash! This way you will be able to come to the beach with your dog, stay with him in a contained area without the fear of him running away, and he might even make some friends with the other dogs!
Pro tip: before you decide to stay there, make sure he’s reacting well to the other dogs that are already there.
They don’t really have any special dog area, however, they are dog-friendly. Your dog will have to stay under your sunbed, so make sure you’ll get a place with an umbrella, to make him stay on chilled and colder sand.
Pro tip: you could also bring a chilling mat to let your dog be even more comfortable.
Chalet del Mare
The ultimate place for any nightlife in Lido Delle Nazioni is Chalet Del Mare. They biggest parties are of course on Saturdays, but very often they organize parties throughout the whole week, too.
Pro tip: on Saturdays and Sundays you’ll also find the afternoon aperitif parties there. Make sure to join in for a great time!
Fridays and Saturdays often have something interesting happening at Bagno Cristallo, too. Sometimes they even throw beach parties called “No Tacchi” (No Heels), in collaboration with the next beach bar, Prestige.
Pro tip: make sure to book a table if you’re planning to participate in a party, since there are limited spots available.
This luxurious beach bar also organizes parties: both by the pool and at the beach. Make sure to update yourself on them, since they don’t happen every weekend.
The Lido’s parties on the terrace are iconic. Overlooking the sea, dancing at the top – it’s a great way to spend the evening.
Pro tip: the evening parties are very often joined with special dinners, so make sure to make a table reservation to be able to participate.
The newest addition to the Lido Delle Nazioni’s nightlife, Bambu’, is already famous for its heated reggaeton parties. Don’t miss out on them if you’re opting for a “hot girl summer”.
Pro tip: (for ladies) don’t wear heels! The wooden surface will make you feel uncomfortable.
Every Wednesday evening, there’s a small market with handmade jewelry, clothes, handmade jams, sweets, alternative accessories, books and more. It takes place at the main square, not far from Chalet Del Mare. It’s also the most crowded evening of the week, since a lot of people come there especially for the market!
Pro tip: you can negotiate the prices!
Every Sunday on the other hand, from the early morning to around 1 PM, there’s a huge market on the central street called Via Inghilterra. Here you’ll find a lot of clothes, shoes, home accessories, jewelry and more.
Pro tip: you can negotiate the prices!
Things to do:
Renting quadruple bikes & quads
One of the great activities you can undertake with your friends is getting the four-wheeled bikes, or even quads. It’s a fun way to explore the neighborhood and bond over a summer together! You can also do it if you have kids – they have a special seat in front of the quadruple bikes.
Renting water boats
Most of the beach bars will also let you rent a water boat to take on a ride on the beach. They have a slide behind, which will let you stop somewhere at sea and slide straight to the water.
Most of the beach bars also have volleyball courts – which is the most commonly practiced beach sport. You don’t even have to bring your own ball, the bar will give it to you for a small caution fee, given back upon returning the ball to them.
Kids will be so thrilled if you take them to the local lunapark, located on the Main Street of the town. Full of various entertainment areas, the kids won’t want to leave the place!
2 Playrooms (Sala Giochi)
There are 2 playrooms in the town, one on the Main Street and one beside Chalet Del Mare. Here you’ll find entertainment games for kids, teenagers, and even casino’s for the adults.
Comacchio, the city to which Nazioni and the other Lidos belong, is located less than 30 minutes away. Some people call it “the small Venice”, because of the bridges that connect the town in between each canals. It’s worth visiting while staying at Lido delle Nazioni, even if just for a few hours! There are local buses to get there available.
A little more distanced, but significantly bigger, is the capital of the region – Ferrara. With its medieval structures and architecture, it’s a great place to visit, especially if you like to combine a little bit of sightseeing with your relaxing vacation. To get the bus tickets, you should get to the ticket spot beside Ristorante Maxim.
This amusement park located around an hour from Lido Delle Nazioni (in Ravenna) is a popular destination for teenagers, adults and kids! With a huge variety of entertainment possibilities, spending even an entire day might not be enough! It’s a totally fun experience, whether you’re coming there with family or a group of friends.
Pro tip: Get there very early (possibly with the first bus, purchasable at the same ticket spot) to avoid the queues, make sure to have a pre-purchased tickets to pass by the waiting line, and bring a towel and a swimming suit with you (you might get wet!). Then, brace yourself for a whole day of entertainment.
Bonus Tip: Wake up around 6 am and go to the beach to witness the sunrise. You won’t regret it!
